This paper discusses the discrepancy between the stated aims of agent research with regard to agent applications, and the reality as found in many (general) agent conferences. After analysing this discrepancy by looking at the distribution of application papers at past AAMAS conferences, we analyse relevant stakeholders for agent applica- tion papers and provide suggestions for them. The aim of this paper is twofold. First, we want to provide a basis for discussing the state and status of agent applications in research oriented conferences. Secondly, we provide initial guidelines for authors and reviewers which might further the acceptance of application oriented work in the agent community.
